Having accounted for 58% of total US hardwood imports including Canada in 2016, China’s share has now declined to 14%.

Indonesia emerged this year as the most common foreign supplier of hardwood plywood to the US market with shipments surging 70% this year to 420,451m3. Imports from Vietnam through August soared to 177,725m3, more than a fivefold increase compared to the 2017 pace. Deliveries from Cambodia more than doubled to 106,92m3.

Shipments from other destinations worldwide, including Brazil, Uruguay, Malaysia, Thailand and Spain also have posted sharp hikes this year.
