Its latest ‘Use Wood Wisely’ campaign is in the form of an animation featuring the ‘Wise Owl’ which takes the audience through the hierarchy of wood, explaining the various uses for wood before it is burnt – including the production of OSB, MDF and particleboard panels.

As a strong voice in the biomass debate and a supporter of addressing environmental issues, Norbord is campaigning against the burning of virgin wood. See the animation at www.usewoodwisely.co.uk

Use Wood Wisely has also highlighted latest figures that show one tonne of wood burnt in a power station emits 1.8 tonnes of CO2 into the atmosphere.

The government has not counted these figures when calculating the carbon cost of biomass in the UK. It has been assumed that biomass is a ‘carbon-free asset’.

These findings again highlight how wrong the UK government is about biomass and how ridiculous growing wood to burn is in trying to meet low carbon energy targets.
