The Government of Ontario is helping the community of Cochrane in a bid to breathe new life into the closed True North Plywood plant and protect 225 local jobs.
The province has invested C$143,875 through the NOHFC’s Infrastructure and Community Development programme to help Cochrane bring together a team of experts to assess the plant’s current business model.
The team’s goal is to find new investors for the facility and explore other possible product lines that would make the mill more competitive.
The mill, built in 1963, originally produced aspen plywood used as sheathing in building construction.
