Georgia-Pacific has decided to permanently close its Fordyce, Arkansas, plywood mill and has indefinitely idled its plywood mill in Louisville, Mississippi, according to media reports. Both facilities had been curtailed since October 2009.

The 340 employees affected by the Fordyce plant’s closure have been out of work since GP curtailed production at the mill last autumn, the Ashley County Ledger reported in December.

Now that the mill is closing for good, GP is encouraging Fordyce employees to apply for positions at the Crossett plywood mill, where about a third of that number will be needed to start a plywood line.
