Reopening of Ainsworth’s closed specialty plywood mill in Savona, British Columbia, uncertain
Ainsworth Lumber’s specialty plywood mill in Savona, British Columbia, which closed in early June, is less certain to open in the near term than was hoped, according to the company.
The Daily News in Kamloops reported in September that one of the main reasons for the June shutdown of the mill, which produces concrete forms, was the rising value of the Canadian dollar.
Ainsworth had hoped to reopen the mill but a company executive said the non-housing construction sector had fallen off while the inventory at Savona had built up.
Ainsworth’s Lillooet mill, which produces veneer for Savona, also remains closed, and the executive indicated it was likely to remain down longer than Savona.
