Duratex SA of Brazil announced on May 7 that its board of directors had approved the implementation of a new medium density particleboard (MDP) production facility with a planned capacity of one million m3/year. The line is to be built at the company’s existing site in Itapetininga, São Paolo state, and will include a low-pressure coating line with a capacity of 10 million m2/year and a resin plant.
Capital expenditure of R$1bn (US$592m) over the next seven years is planned, including plantation development. Duratex said the line will serve the growing MDP market pegged to the furniture makers, which has been, and is expected to continue, experiencing strong growth.
