South America’s leading wood panel maker Masisa SA has successfully launched its first medium density particleboard line in Brazil.

The 750,000m3/year continuous line, based on a 43m long reconditioned Dieffenbacher press from a redundant Canadian strawboard mill, started up on time late in May at Montenegro, Rio Grande do Sul state. It is said to be the largest MDP line operating in Brazil to date.

Group subsidiary Masisa do Brasil Ltda was due to have a new 300,000m3/year Hymmen low pressure melamine laminating line up and running at the Montenegro site by the middle of July.

The full project, costing around US$266m, is situated on a total site of 74ha with 32ha already occupied by buildings.
