A potential new buyer looking at Weyerhaeuser’s closed OSB mill in Miramichi, New Brunswick, met in October with woodlot owners, business officials and politicians, reports the Times & Transcript.

Quebec-based businessman Jean-Guy Lesage officially presented his business plans to the Members of the Legislative Assembly (MLAs). He is attempting to buy both the Weyerhaeuser mill and the former Atcon Plywood Inc mill in Nelson.

Lesage, who has forestry and real estate experience, is the third suitor in as many years since Weyerhaeuser closed its mill, and his plan appears to hinge on his ability to acquire both mills.

The newspaper said the businessman had worked on the project for a number of months and invested about C$150,000 into it so far. Lesage has also reportedly been to Weyerhaeuser’s headquarters in Federal Way, Washington, on at least one occasion to meet with company officials.
